International talent to Denmark's maritime sector
Mar 19, 2026 New project will create international awareness of career opportunities in Denmark’s maritime sector, and talent attraction to the sector's companies.
Project name: A State of Maritime
Purpose: International awareness of career opportunities in Denmark’s maritime sector, and talent attraction to the sector's companies.
Background: The Danish maritime sector is a global powerhouse and a key player in international trade and the green transition. The industry is known for innovation and high standards, but faces a serious shortage of specialised labour. This applies to both technical and engineering profiles, seafaring roles, and cybersecurity experts – an area of increasing importance for shipping. The challenge is exacerbated by an ageing workforce, many of whom are approaching retirement. If new talent is not attracted, the sector risks losing competitiveness and slowing down the green transition.
Short description: The project aims to strengthen the sector's ability to attract and retain international specialists. This is done through international promotion of concrete career opportunities in the Danish maritime sector and branding of Denmark as an attractive place to live and work, via the ‘A State of Denmark’ platform. The marketing and branding efforts are intended to inspire relevant international specialists in professional environments to apply for jobs in Denmark and create awareness of life here.
Expected results: The effort is expected to increase the visibility of the Danish maritime sector globally and attract highly specialised international profiles to Danish companies. The project will assist 40 companies with recruitment and connect 1,000 international candidates to career opportunities in Denmark. Long term, the project will help sustain a globally oriented maritime sector that can maintain its position as an international leader.
Duration: March 2026 – February 2028
