New film fund launched to support film productions in Eastern Denmark
Jan 14, 2026The Eastern Denmark Film Fund Launches with Government Backing Under Leadership of Award-Winning Producer Kim Magnusson.
The new Eastern Denmark Film Fund has just received support from the Danish Film Institute and is now officially established, providing a strong foundation for strengthening film and TV productions in Eastern Denmark. The fund has appointed Kim Magnusson to lead the initial phase.
With the establishment of the Eastern Denmark Film Fund, new opportunities are created to attract, develop, and retain film productions in the region. The government funding will be used to support national and international productions that choose Eastern Denmark as their filming and production location.
As part of the establishment, the award-winning film producer Kim Magnusson has been appointed to lead the build-up of the fund and to put Copenhagen and Eastern Denmark on the world map.
“With the Eastern Denmark Film Fund, we are now receiving a strong and much-needed injection of funds to develop and attract both Danish and especially international film and TV productions to Eastern Denmark, and I very much look forward to heading the fund,” says Kim Magnusson.
The final organizational structure of the Eastern Denmark Film Fund is expected to be in place in the autumn, but already before the summer holidays the first application round for film and TV support is expected to open.
The fund will help promote Eastern Denmark as an attractive and professional production environment, particularly for international films, with access to locations, skills, and partners. Together with the production rebate scheme, the fund can increase the attraction of film productions to Denmark in general and develop the industry, the sector, and film culture in Eastern Denmark. The fund thus serves as a strong supplement to FilmFyn and the Western Denmark Film Fund, ensuring a stronger geographical balance in Danish film production. The Eastern Denmark Film Fund will also contribute to growth in the creative industries, create jobs, and strengthen talent development in the region.
The Eastern Denmark Film Fund is established under Copenhagen Capacity, which attracts international companies to East Denmark and talent to Danish industry. Asbjørn Overgaard, CEO of Copenhagen Capacity, states:
“The establishment of the Eastern Denmark Film Fund is an important step in making Eastern Denmark more visible and competitive as a production destination. With the support from the Danish Film Institute, we gain a strong foundation for attracting more film and TV productions, creating local jobs, and strengthening the creative sector in the region. With Kim Magnusson on board, I am confident that the fund will achieve significant international reach.”
The Eastern Denmark Film Fund has municipal funding of DKK 12.8 million from the municipalities of Copenhagen, Vordingborg, and Guldborgsund. This has resulted in government support from the Danish Film Institute of DKK 27,7 million, bringing the total funding pool to DKK 40.5 (Approx. US$ 6.3M) million for film and TV productions in Eastern Denmark.
