US biotech Anthology Biotechnologies establishes European headquarters in Copenhagen
Jun 19, 2026 Anthology Biotechnologies (Anthology), a US biotechnology company applying artificial intelligence and genome engineering to revolutionize biomanufacturing, has selected Copenhagen as the base for its European headquarters. The establishment was supported by Copenhagen Capacity.Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Anthology has registered its European subsidiary, Anthology Biotechnologies ApS, in Copenhagen. Founded in 2023 with roots at MIT, Boston University, and Harvard, the company is working to redefine the possibilities of biomanufacturing by designing functional genomes, combining genome engineering, hardware engineering, and AI.
“Copenhagen and Medicon Valley are a natural choice for us. The region is home to a unique concentration of biotechnology expertise, strong universities, and an industry that is at the forefront of sustainable biomanufacturing. In addition, Europe’s strong public and private commitment to the bioeconomy, including the growing number of dedicated deeptech and industrial biotech funds across the continent, creates the kind of long-term funding environment that deeptech companies like ours need to scale. We have found the partners and the professional environment we need to scale our platform to the European market.”
— Jing Zhang, Co-founder and CEO, Anthology Biotechnologies
Establishment assisted by Copenhagen Capacity's life science team
Copenhagen Capacity supported Anthology throughout the process of establishing in Denmark — from initial market analysis and assessment of the European biotech landscape to practical assistance with company registration and introductions to key players within the Medicon Valley cluster.
“We are pleased to have been able to assist Anthology with the establishment of their European headquarters in Copenhagen. Anthology represents exactly the kind of deep tech companies that strengthen our position as a global hub for sustainable biotechnology. What distinguishes Anthology is not just their focus on precision fermentation, but their platform approach, building strain development infrastructure that can be deployed across multiple industries and product categories. Medicon Valley is home to more than 75,000 life science professionals and over 700 life science companies, and we are confident that Anthology will find the foundation here it needs to grow and create lasting change in the biomanufacturing industry.”
— Asbjørn Overgaard, CEO, Copenhagen Capacity
The Copenhagen establishment marks Anthology’s first step into the European market. The company expects to build a local team focused on manufacturing scale-up, product development, and business development and partnerships with European industrial players in the food, pharmaceutical, and sustainable materials sectors.
“For us, choosing Copenhagen is not just about geography — it is being embedded in one of the world’s deepest concentrations of biomanufacturing expertise. Denmark has built global champions in industrial biotech, and the talent base combined with the collaborative culture of Medicon Valley, gives us the technical foundation we need to scale our platform in Europe. We look forward to building our European presence from here.”
