New initiative brings international talent and the Danish maritime industry together
Oct 6, 2026The maritime sector undergoing rapid transformation. Copenhagen Capacity's new initiative puts the spotlight on inviting both highly skilled international professionals and Denmark-based maritime companies to change course.
Copenhagen Capacity launches "A state of change" to connect the Danish maritime sector with international talent.
The Danish maritime sector is changing fast. Green fuels, digitalisation, automation and new regulations are reshaping how vessels are designed, built and operated, and how the entire supply chain around them works. That's the starting point for "A state of change", a new marketing initiative under the 'A State of Denmark' brand, developed to connect maritime companies in Denmark with highly skilled international professionals.
The campaign launches at a time when demand for specialists in IT, tech, and engineering is growing faster than the local talent pool can keep up with. Many maritime companies and sub-suppliers can no longer afford to question whether to recruit internationally – but rather how.
A sector in transition needs new perspectives
A state of change builds on a simple idea: a sector in transition needs people who bring fresh skills and new ways of thinking. And many of those people may not yet see themselves in the maritime sector.
The campaign speaks to two groups of internationals: those already specialised in the maritime sector, and those with skills the sector urgently needs, such as software developers, data specialists, engineers and green transition experts, who haven't yet considered a maritime career.
Change goes both ways
At the same time, A State of Change asks maritime companies to change, too. The sector has always relied on international expertise, and with the local talent pool stretched thin, that need is only growing.
“The Danish maritime sector and shipping industry are truly global and have been so for years. That is also reflected in the high level of innovation in the sector, said Asbjørn Ovegaard, CEO of Copenhagen Capacity and spokesperson of 'A State of Denmark. "A continued influx of international talents are crucial to sustain this position and solve the future challenges of the sector.
But the right international candidates don't always come with a maritime background. Many of the skills the sector needs most, from software development and data to automation and engineering, are just as valuable and transferable from other industries. By opening up to internationals with these skills, companies gain access to a much larger pool of talent, ready to help drive the transformation forward.

From campaign to career opportunities
The campaign runs across diverse communication channels, e.g. social media, newsletters, events and partner activities. Every touchpoint ultimately leads to the 'A State of Denmark Job Portal'. Here, maritime companies and sub-suppliers in Denmark can reach highly skilled international professionals who want to live and work in Denmark, or already do and vice versa.
The fact is that the maritime sector is already changing course. The question is who will be on board.
