Danish companies and international candidates brought together over a cup of coffee.

Aug 18, 2026

A new initiative from Copenhagen Capacity uses Denmark's coffee meeting culture to connect Danish companies with international candidates, addressing the country's shortage of highly-skilled talents while introducing newcomers to local job-search traditions.

Copenhagen Capacity turns coffee into a recruitment tool with new “Career Coffee” initiative

That’s the idea behind Career Coffee, a new campaign from ‘A State of Denmark’, developed to make international candidates and Danish companies connect. In collaboration with a Copenhagen based roastery, Impact Roasters, the initiative introduces a custom coffee blend designed to spark the kind of conversations and human connections that don’t happen through formal applications or AI-driven recruitment systems.

The campaign launches at a time when the competition for international talent is intensifying across Europe and while recruitment processes are becoming increasingly digital, standardized, and, often, impersonal. For many companies, attracting the right candidates is no longer just about visibility, but about creating meaningful engagement early in the process.t

Brewing up human connections

Career Coffee builds on that simple but overlooked truth: the best hiring decisions rarely happen in formal interviews. They happen in the moments where conversation becomes real, and people truly connect. And in a coffee loving country such as Denmark, well, that often happens over a cup of coffee.

“Too much of recruitment today is transactional,” said Asbjørn Ovegaard, spokesperson of ‘A State of Denmark’. “This campaign is about reintroducing something simple but powerful: human connection.”

In Denmark, informal coffee meetings have long been a natural part of professional networking and recruitment. In fact, it’s so common that this practice has a name of its own: “Kaffeemøde” (engl.: coffee chats). This tradition inspired ‘A State of Denmark’ to turn coffee into a physical gateway between international candidates and Danish employers

From coffee chat to career opportunities

A special Career Coffee-kit is sent directly to selected companies across Denmark, served at career events, and featured across diverse digital content platforms, creating informal spaces where candidates and employers can meet on more equal footing.

Each touchpoint leads back to the ‘A State of Denmark Job Portal’, where companies in Denmark can reach highly skilled international professionals wanting to, or already, living in Denmark. But the ambition goes beyond the Job Portal, it’s about changing how international career connections begin.

As competition for global talent intensifies, Denmark is making a deliberate shift: from process to people, from applications to conversations. Because sometimes, the right opportunity doesn’t start with a click, but with a conversation over a cup of coffee.
