Networking, recruitment and job interviews at MIT career fair

Recruitment activities played a big role when Copenhagen Capacity and partners joined employer branding forces at MIT European Career Fair in Boston. So far, delegation partners are looking at potential hires of more than 10 candidates.

Boston boasts some of the brightest students and young professionals across a variety of industries, especially IT, tech, life science and engineering.

For this very reason, Copenhagen Capacity visited MIT European Career Fair in February for the fifth time in a row, along with 11 partners.

Two days of on-site job interviews

The career fair is the largest of its kind in North America and attracts strong science and tech candidates, interested in a career in Europe.

“MIT European Career Fair in Boston has become an increasingly important recruitment platform for Novo Nordisk as we can tap into a very relevant candidate pool from some of the best IVY league universities in America”

More than 20 job interviews

In addition to employer branding activities, participating organisations had two days available for interviews – and the Danish delegation fully embraced this opportunity to meet potential employees, conducting +20 interviews with STEM profiles.

“We are specifically looking for engineering and biotech competencies, and this year we interviewed seven strong candidates the day after the career fair. Being a part of a large, joint Denmark stand truly made us and Denmark stand out from the crowd and increase the visibility of Denmark as an attractive career destination.”

Lars Ditlev from Aarhus University agrees that the united approach is very valuable.

“We participated at MIT European Career Fair for the first time this year, and it has already proven to be a very valuable recruitment platform. We have several candidates who we met at MIT in recruitment process. Standing side by side other Danish companies and universities at the large “Denmark area” and being a part of the Danish delegation programme gave us a great platform to start our dialogue with strong STEM candidates, who would probably never have thought about working in Denmark before meeting us in Boston.”

Insider tips to recruiting MIT candidates

To kick off the career fair, participants were invited to the ‘Hacking Recruiting at MIT’ seminar, providing an insider view on how to reach MIT candidates through on and off-campus channels such as job and internship databases, student clubs, and academic administrators responsible for individual departments and programmes at MIT.

Invitation-only networking event

The night before the MIT European Career Fair, a new networking event especially developed for the participating Danish organisations, provided a great opportunity to meet talented MIT candidates. More than 60 students came by to meet Danish companies and universities to this invitation-only event, hosted by DI and Copenhagen Capacity at the Innovation Center Denmark which recently opened in Boston.

The newly established MIT-Denmark programme is another source, providing companies in Denmark with the opportunity to onboard talented MIT students for internships and research. This has already resulted in 21 MIT students are coming to Denmark through this programme, and 3shape are taking in three MIT interns via this programme.
