In May 2018, airline operator Cathay Pacific will open a direct route from Copenhagen to the Chinese metropolis of Hong Kong, which is home to many of the most important Danish companies with commercial interests in Hong Kong.
Cathay Pacific’s Airbus A350-900 will depart from Copenhagen to Hong Kong on 2 May 2018, marking several years’ hard work to establish a direct route from Denmark to one of the world’s most important cities.
Danish foods, cleantech and healthtech popular in China
With a population of close to 8 million, Hong Kong is an intriguing destination, and the city’s pulsating business sector includes many of the most important Danish companies with commercial interests in Hong Kong.
“China is an important growth market for Danish businesses specialising in cleantech, health technologies and foods, and the interest in Denmark is increasing among Chinese companies. We warmly welcome this new route to Hong Kong that adds to the extensive network of flight routes at Copenhagen Airport, which is also praised for its efficiency, punctuality and high security level”, says Claus Lønborg, CEO at Copenhagen Capacity, who assists international businesses and investors in establishing in Greater Copenhagen.

44% increase in passengers to Hong Kong
The new route will also offer completely new travel opportunities for Danish leisure and business passengers to fly via Hong Kong to other destinations in Cathay Pacific’s vast network, for example to Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and megacities such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen in Southern China.
At first this will be a seasonal route from May to October inclusive, with at least three weekly departures: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There is a solid basis for this. Passenger figures show that 27,000 passengers flew from Copenhagen to Hong Kong via other airports in 2016 – an increase of 44% in just three years.
