Denmark innovation leader in EC ranking

Denmark holds on to its top ranking as innovation leader in new EC Innovation Union Scoreboard. Denmark is the only innovation leader improving its score compared to last year.
Denmark is once again among the European countries with innovation performance well above the EU average, along with Finland, Germany and Sweden.
Denmark is the only country among the innovation leaders with an improved score compared to 2014, according to the EC Innovation Union Scoreboard 2015.
Leading across the board
The most innovative countries perform well and clearly above the EU average in all areas. From research and higher education systems, through business innovation activities and intellectual assets up to innovation in SMEs and economic effects, reflecting balanced national research and innovation systems.
The Innovation Union Scoreboard includes 25 eight innovation dimensions in three main categories:
- Enablers: human resources; open, excellent and attractive research systems; and finance and support – the basic building blocks which allow innovation to take place.
- Firm activities: firm investments; linkages and entrepreneurship; and intellectual assets – capturing business innovation efforts.
- Outputs: innovators and economic effects – showing how this translates into benefits for the economy as a whole.
About the EC Innovation Union Scoreboard
The Innovation Union Scoreboard (IUS) provides a comparative assessment of the research and innovation performance of the EU Member States. In addition, the IUS covers Serbia, Turkey, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. On a more limited number of indicators, available internationally, it also covers Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, Russia, South Africa, South Korea and the US.
