Copenhagen is 2nd most livable city in Europe

Copenhagen is second most liveable city in Europe and number nine in the world according to the Global Liveability Index 2019. The index ranks stability, health, culture and environment, education and infrastructure to assess the quality of lifestyle in 140 cities worldwide.

This year’s top ten most liveable cities ranking, Global Liveability Index 2019 by Economist Intelligence Unit, is almost identical with last year’s ditto. Vienna holds on to pole position and the rest is a slight reshuffle of last year’s top ten performers.

Copenhagen holds on to the ninth place overall and to its position as the second most liveable city in Europe.

Copenhagen offers close to the ideal lifestyle

The Economist’s Intelligence Unit’s liveability rating qualifies the challenges that might be presented to an individual’s lifestyle in 140 cities worldwide. The index examines over 30 different factors across the five categories: stability, health, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Offering close to the ideal lifestyle, Copenhagen scores high across the board (100 = ideal):

  • Stability: 95 out of 100
  • Healthcare: 95.8 out of 100
  • Culture and environment: 95.4 out of 100
  • Education: 100 out of 100 
  • Infrastructure: 100 out of 1
