Copenhagen is the world’s 8th smartest sustainable city

Up four spots, Copenhagen is now the eighth best city in the world when it comes to competitiveness, sustainability and quality of life for its inhabitants.

Cities in Motion Index 2019 by IESE Business School offers a broad and holistic vision of what a city represents, taking into account different key dimensions to create smarter, liveable and more sustainable cities.

Copenhagen takes the eighth spot overall, standing out in social cohesion, economy and the environment.

Among medium cities – that is, those that have between 1 million and 5 million inhabitants – Copenhagen ranks second, surpassed only by Amsterdam and followed by Vienna, Stockholm and Oslo.

Growth is green in Copenhagen

Copenhagen is the third best city in the world in the environment dimension in the Cities in Motion Index.

The Index also analyses the cross dimensions of the economy and the environment, and Copenhagen appears among those cities that have a good performance in both dimensions. This means that a high level of economic development does not have to be detrimental to the well-being of the environment.

“Denmark offers one of the world’s most dynamic and attractive business environments with a highly skilled workforce and very competitive business costs as well as an ambitious climate strategy. As a result, companies in Greater Copenhagen have plenty of opportunities to work with the best in cleantech and smart city solutions”
