5,809 new businesses in Copenhagen in 2012

In 2012, 5,809 new businesses emerged in Copenhagen. This is an increase of 6.2 per cent since 2011, and is the largest number of start-ups in a year since 2001.
Entrepreneurs create jobs in Copenhagen, and consequently the City of Copenhagen is trying to encourage more people to set up their own business, as well as help them stay in business.
Among other things, Copenhagen Business Service provides free counselling and training for entrepreneurs and collaborates with the city’s educational institutions, business clusters and entrepreneurial environments on bringing entrepreneurship into focus.
In 2012, 3,006 start-ups were in contact with Copenhagen Business Services within areas such as IT, design, media and hospitality industry. This corresponds to more than half of the newly registered companies in Copenhagen in 2012.
