Danish economy among EU’s best
29 May 2012
'BØRSEN: The EU Commission expects a Danish economic growth of 1.1 per cent this year and of 1.4 per cent in 2013. '
“Denmark’s economic performance is projected to be among the best for EU member states this year,” the Commission wrote. As regards projected growth in 2012 Denmark is ranked as the 7th best.
The Commission mentions the government’s kick-start, the domestic demand and the lump sum reimbursement of VERP (voluntary early retirement scheme) contributions as the main reasons why the wheels are moving forward – though slowly.
The Commission pointed out that the Danes have accepted a moderate wage growth. This should strengthen Denmark’s competitiveness and consequently the Danish export.
Finally the Commission wrote that the Danish companies are beginning to take some advantage of the high growth in emerging markets, e.g. Brazil and India.
If this trend continues, it could affect Denmark’s economic performance both this year and in the future, the Commission wrote. /ritzau/BNS
