UK Institute of Export turns its spotlight on trade with the Nordic nations
03 11月 2014
The UK’s export to the Nordic countries, when the Baltic states are included, is equal to Britain’s export to all of the BRIC markets put together. The Institute of Export offers businesses an afternoon seminar on how to approach the Nordic markets in London on November 12.
The four Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden – may have a combined population of less than half of that of the UK, but the region is the UK’s sixth most important export market with, for example, the export of goods and services totalling some £24bn in 2012.
When the Baltic states are included, the UK’s export to the Nordic countries is equal to Britain’s export to all of the BRIC markets (Brazil, Russia, India, China) put together. Moreover:
- The four Nordic countries form one of the world’s wealthiest regions with GDP per capita set to increase by 80% by 2050.
- They have a highly skilled workforce and a low level of unemployment.
- Economic debt is significantly below the euro-zone average.
- The countries constitute a huge force on the global maritime scene.
Significant opportunities are seen for UK interests in sectors including oil and gas, renewable energy, nuclear power station building and expansion, shale gas development, transport infrastructure, healthcare and telecommunications. In the Arctic region, there are longer term opportunities in mining, shipping and offshore energy.
Afternoon seminar with the Export Institute
Hosting an afternoon seminar, the UK Institute of Export has assembled a panel of speakers to outline the potential rewards of doing business in the Nordic region and how to approach the market.
Speakers are scheduled to include DSV, a supplier of transport and logistics solutions. Its subsidiary DSV Road is one of the three leading logistics providers in Europe. Earlier this year it launched an express road service called DSV Daily Flyer between the UK and Scandinavia for shippers with time-sensitive cargo.
