According to the annual Rule of Law Index conducted by the Washington-based World Justice Project, Denmark has the world’s most responsible government.
In the index, over 90 nations were ranked according to nine different factors including limited government powers, criminal justice and absence of corruption.
To make it into the top 10, national laws must be enforced and accessible, as well as efficient and fair. Moreover, justice should be delivered by competent, ethical and independent representatives, who are non-partisan, have adequate resources to judge a case and reflect the makeup of the communities they serve.
Denmark is world leading in two categories - government accountability and criminal justice – and had a near perfect score in all the other categories. Denmark’s public institutions are transparent, efficient and free of corruption. The country has relatively low levels of crime and the criminal justice system is effective in bringing offenders to justice.
