FEWER CARS IN COPENHAGEN
Apr. 23, 2010 | Topic: Location and infrastructureA new proposal is to deter commuters and other motorists from taking the car and compel them to make use of the public means of transportation instead. The proposal involves a so-called purple parking zone in the inner city of Copenhagen.
If the proposal is adopted, parking in the inner city will be restricted to a maximum of half an hour at a time on weekdays between 8 am and 6 pm. In return, it will be free of charge.
Copenhagen’s Mayor of the Technical and Environmental Administration, Bo Asmus Kjeldgaard, wants to lower the number of commuters, who sit alone in their car and might as well make use of the public means of transportation.
-A purple zone will also reduce the the search time for a vacant parking space from ten to two minutes," says Bo Asmus Kjeldgaard.
