MINISTER'S DREAM CAN BECOME A WEARY TASK

- We have a good infrastructure, we have businesses, researchers, cross border collaboration and the political will. We lack only political solutions to the financial situation, "states Director of Life Science in Copenhagen Capacity, Anders Trojel to the daily paper Berlingske Tidende.

The statement is a response to Health Minister, Jakob Axel Nielsen’s dream of world class Medicon Valley. Anders Trojel stresses that Medicon Valley is already in the top of the European biotech league, but that the challenge in Denmark as elsewhere is access to venture capital. The industry therefore calls for some figures from the minister.

- For the past 15 years we have been working on attracting foreign companies and investors to the Danish capital region - including a great deal of life science companies. We are well aware of the strengths and the weaknesses in the business. It is therefore not completely overstated when Vækstfonden and a number of other prestigious biotech analysts have estimated that the need for new venture capital to the industry is running into billions Anders Trojel says.

Political solutions
Anders Trojel recognizes the many existing initiatives to support the biotech companies, while stressing that venture capital is needed by the billion.

- The minister’s dream can easily become a weary task if there are no political solutions to the financial situation, says Anders Trojel.  Just as the Capital Region of Denmark among other things concluded in its great analysis of the industry last year.
