NEW AWARD FOR MOUNTAIN DWELLINGS
Denmark’s most awarded housing project VM Bjerget (Mountain Dwellings) in Ørestad was last week awarded another of the world’s very important architectural awards the prestigious MIPIM Award which is presented each year at the world’s largest real estate fair MIPIM in Cannes, France. The spectacular and remarking building won in the “Residential Developments” category. As mentioned it is not the first time the building won a prestigious award. At “World Architechture Festival” in Barcelona Mountain Dwellings was awarded the world’s best residential building – just as the building received the Nordic architecture and design award “Forumprisen” last month.
Mountain Dwellings is built in the new district Ørestad in Copenhagen and the architect behind it is Bjarke Ingels from the architects BIG. Bjarke Ingels explains:
“Often architecture that is praised by architects can be difficult for other professional groups to understand. Therefore I am happy that with this award I am also being praised by investors. Moreover, I am pleased with the award because it is the first completed development, in which we apply what we call alchemistic architecture: we are mixing different functions – here parking and housing – and thus provide added value to users and investors.
Apart from being an unconventional building with large roof gardens in up to 10th floor, the 80 flats are designed with respect for simple design and the building even has its own multi-storey park house in the mountain’s centre.
The annual MIPIM Awards is a glittering ceremony which is almost to be considered the international real estate business’ Palmes d’Or in which real estate projects with outstanding architecture are awarded.
Mountain Dwellings was fought to the last by some of the world’s most innovative projects, however it took home the distinguished award all the same. The building was nominated in the “Residential Developments” category which is one of five categories. The other categories are Business Centres, Green Buildings, Hotels & Tourism Resorts and Refurbished Office Buildings. The jury had nominated 15 of 62 innovative buildings from the entire world this year.
