RECORD NUMBER OF ADMISSIONS OF IT STUDENTS
Aug. 9, 2011 | Topic: ICT and high tech industriesA significant increase in the applications and admissions of IT students at universities around the country will strengthen the Danish economy by approximately DKK half a billion a year, writes the Børsen daily newspaper.
This is according to a statement from the Danish IT Industry Association which is delighted by the increased interest in the subject.
- The popularity of IT as a subject is just the boost that Denmark needs. IT jobs are among the types of employment that deliver the most value and can also generate new exports within the fields of health, climate and welfare, says Morten Bangsgaard, CEO of the Danish IT Industry Association.
- Currently we have a few thousand IT specialists in Denmark, and the demand for IT competencies will continue to grow. It is therefore necessary for us to ensure a high completion rate in university IT courses, which means the universities can offer more places and we can encourage more students to select this type of course, continues Morten Bangsgaard.
Over the past few years, the Ministry of Knowledge, the Danish Chamber of Commerce and the Danish IT Industry Association have made substantial, collaborative efforts to attract students onto IT courses.
This year, 2231 students have been enrolled to study IT.
