COPENHAGEN – A ”GREEN SILICON VALLEY”
Nine months after COP15, international top leaders meet in Copenhagen to kick start the next phase of the green growth economy.
In September 2010, the first key step will be taken, towards making Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark one of the world’s leading centres of green growth economy – a “Green Silicon Valley”. The point of departure is the release of the long-awaited report from the Danish government's Climate Commission, regarding Denmark as a fossil free society.
Behind the idea, “Green Silicon Valley”, are the City of Copenhagen, Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster, DONG Energy and the weekly newspaper, Monday Morning. The project will be launched in connection to the World Climate Solutions 2010 which is organised in collaboration with the VELUX Group, The Nordic Counsil of Ministers, Nidab networking and with International Herald Tribune as a global media partner. Furthermore Denmark's five leading universities are also part of the collaboration.
At the World Climate Solutions 2010 some of the world’s leading experts, business people and politicians will discuss the development of the future’s sustainable solutions. Amongst the top names are Anthony Giddens, the world famous sociologist, Bill Ritter, Governor of USA’s new green front runner state, Colorado, Yang Soo Gil, South Korea’s supreme manager of green growth, Bjarke Ingels, the star of sustainable architecture and David Miller, Mayor of Toronto. Amongst others, they will meet with Mayor of Copenhagen, Frank Jensen, the EU Climate Commisioner, Connie Hedegaard, Minister for Climate and Energy, Lykke Friis together with Danish and International top executives and scientists.
Moreover, Copenhagen and Denmark will be positioned as some of the world’s best examples that is it possible to create wealth without compounding the pollution.
