Køge's business life is characterised by the presence of Zealand's largest port. Many businesses are dependent on the port for transportation and many more operate with the logistics of or by leveraging the local possibility of combining sea, rail and air transport to benefit their operations.

The harbour is part of Scandinavian Transport Centre, one of Scandinavia's biggest transport centres, which provides an extensive range of services including warehousing, logistics and shipping, restaurant facilities etc. Scandinavian Transport Centre is a major asset to the area and is continually attracting business to the town.

Like the rest of the bay area on which it sits, Køge is home to many small and medium sized businesses within traditional sectors such as wholesale, entrepreneurial and trade activities, retail, repair, metal manufacturing, estate agents and other fields in the service sphere. The municipality is also home to farming activities, fishing and foodstuffs.

Unlike the rest of the bay area, the future business profile of Køge is influenced by the presence of Scandinavian Transport Centre. The future development of the transport sector will be characterised by a consumer driven increase in road transportation. Our aim is that Køge will capitalise on its location as a key traffic hub to Scandinavia. We expect to see an increase in the transport and logistics business and the municipality will be able to offer expertise within transport and logistics and collaboration with the business service sector.
