CULTURE AND ATTRACTIONS
Being the regional centre, Hillerød has a flourishing business life that is continually growing. Cultural life, too, is thriving, with drama groups and cultural workshops making their mark on the town, mainly in the Knowledge and Cultural Park and through the many annual events that are held in Hillerød.
Beautiful sights and cultural expanse
Centred around Frederiksborg Castle, Hillerød is known as the "castle town". The castle is one of the most beautiful in Denmark and today serves as a museum and national gallery. Frederiksborg Castle and the surrounding baroque garden is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Denmark. The castle park is adjacent to forest and has in the past served as a royal hunting retreat. Today, one-third of the municipality's area is forest and lakes, where Lake Esrum has a special significance for the area.
Hillerød municipality prioritises sports - both at the competitive and general levels. Our sports centres, Frederiksborgcenteret and Idrætskilen, are currently being developed and expanded. The vast and varied landscape in the municipality offers many opportunities to pursue all kinds of outdoor sports.
We prioritise health and strongly believe in the importance of a well-functioning family life. We offer guaranteed day-care for pre-school age children and excellent possibilities for after-school activities for school-age children.
The varied educational and business life supports a great number of cafés, restaurants, bars and entertainments, making Hillerød a place of activity also after working hours.
