Korean electronics giant Samsung has fallen in love with Danish design and is now giving two young Danish designers the opportunity of a lifetime in its European design centre in Milan.
Next October, Samsung will select one male and one female with roots in Denmark’s strong design tradition combined with a forward thinking approach to develop products for Samsung’s global electronic shop, writes Børsen.
Explains Samsung’s managing director Solvej JI Hyun Lee: “We are looking for two designers who can be interesting for Samsung in the long run. The first time round they will be involved in the development of a single product, and beyond that Samsung has many opportunities to offer.“
In the past year Samsung has been focusing very much on Scandinavian and especially Danish design. The design directors from the company’s Korean head office have made several visits to Denmark and now interest is greater than ever.
In recent years Samsung has undergone a remarkable transformation from electronics giant to design oriented trendsetter. Today Samsung employs more than 500 designers who are working on product designs for mobile phones, flat-screen televisions, mp3 players and much more.
