Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup has developed a huge transit airport for international air cargo, writes Børsen Business Daily.
In 2007, 51,153 tonnes incoming air cargo was handled in Kastrup and 61,318 tonnes outgoing. However, the transit volume landed on no less than 283,034 tonnes air cargo. With regard to the incoming cargo it is a growth rate of 5.8 per cent in 2007 compared with the previous year. For outgoing cargo the growth rate was 21.1 per cent compared with 2006 whereas transit growth was 0.7 per cent.
“We have much transit cargo in Copenhagen. And this is mainly a result of the fact that we have some extremely good handling companies, which handle the flights and the reshipment of the cargo," says Head of Department Lars Korup, who is manager of air cargo in Copenhagen Airports.
During the last few years, Lars Korup and his staff have succeeded to attract several large cargo flights to Kastrup. It is the far eastern airline companies such as Singapore Airlines, Korean Airlines, Air China Cargo and China Cargo Airlines.
Kastrup airport is presently served by 16-18 large Boeing 747 cargo flights from airlines such as Korean, Singapore, China Eastern and Air China. The handling in Kastrup is undertaken by three different handling companies.
