After two Danish artists received the Carnegie Art Award, Danish art is in a stronger position than ever, according to the Danish Minister of Culture. He believes that the success is based on several factors.
Danish art is more popular than ever. This was confirmed when the two Danish artists John Kørner and Jesper Just received the Carnegie Art Award last Wednesday. The Carnegie Art Award is one of the largest funding awards in the world, writes Børsen Business Daily.
“Danish art is doing exceptionally well and that is noticed around the world. I am invited to give speeches in Sweden, Germany, France and Great Britain about what we do in Denmark, including the Danish legislation on tax allowances and reliefs”, says the Danish Minister of Culture, Brian Mikkelsen, who participated in the opening of the exhibition of the nominees and the prize winners.
He believes that the success is the result of interplay between various factors: Talented artists, who have international experience; excellent galleries, which support the artists on international fairs; well-organised systems of subsidies and institutions. Finally, the Minister mentioned two specific initiatives, which he himself has been struggling for: Partly the arrangement, making it possible for companies to deduct art purchases in their taxes, partly a much focused funding of Danish galleries at international art fairs, including stand rental.
