Life science industries:

Novo NordiskWith over DKK 50 million in EU support Novo Nordisk together with hospitals and universities in the entire Europe are to develop a unit to predict diabetics’ blood sugar without having to take blood samples.

The technologies are there. Now they just need to be linked. Scientific Project Coordinator Jens Ulrik Poulsen from Novo Nordisk simply summarises what is the ambition behind a new research project, which is to develop a unit, predicting diabetics’ blood sugar level in order to better dose their insulin, writes the monthly Ingeniøren.

Jens Ulrik Poulsen is to head the four year research project, which a number of European hospitals, universities and companies recently started. The project will utilise measurements solely from sensors on the body. No blood samples from patients will be included to predict the blood sugar level.

The research project has received over DKK 50 million in support from the EU, which is more than half of the entire budget. Initially, the goal is take the first step by developing the necessary technologies. Consequently the idea is not to have a final product ready for marketing after four years, explains Jens Ulrik Poulsen.
