A greener capital to have more public transport
20-03-2008
Society and living:
A few days ago the plan for Region Hovedstaden’s future was announced. The public transport will be significantly prioritised and the Copenhageners will have maximal ten minutes to the nearest green area.
New S-trains lines, a light railway next to Ring 3, express busses on the motorways and a much publicised harbour tunnel. These are some of the plans in the regional development plan, which was recently announced, writes Berlingske Tidende.
Moreover, all citizens are to have maximal ten minutes walk to the nearest green area, environmental zones for diesel traffic are to be introduced all the way out to Ring 4 and a planned national park is to be enlarged.
The plan is the region’s first development plan and it is among other things an offshoot of the large citizen hearing last November in which the region’s citizens came up with their ideas as to how Region Hovedstaden is to look in the future. The citizens’ clearest wishes were an overall green profile, education for everyone and not least a strengthening of the region’s public transport.
Wishes that the region has tried to comply with.
