According to the French Michelin guide, Copenhagen continues to be a clear leader in the Nordic countries. The restaurants Geranium, Paustian and Kiin Kiin have all been awarded their first star in the Michelin guide. Among Scandinavian cities, Stockholm ranks number two.
With the other eight Michelin star restaurants in Copenhagen all retaining their standings, The Danish capital now boasts no fewer than 12 Michelin star restaurants, putting Copenhagen clearly ahead of Stockholm, which ranks second among Scandinavian cities with 7 Michelin star restaurants, writes Berlingske.
It was expected that Paustian, headed by leading chef Bo Bech, and Kiin Kiin would receive a Michelin star as they were both awarded a rising star last year.
“It is not often that I cannot control my own body, but I admit that I started to cry when they called one hour ago," says Bo Bech, who readily admits that this is his greatest moment as a chef and restaurateur.
On the other hand, it was quite a surprise that less than a year after opening, restaurant Geranium was awarded a Michelin star in the guide which is known to be extremely conservative and cautious – it happens only rarely that a star is awarded so quickly. Chef Rasmus Kofoed's silver and bronze medals at the two latest world championships for chefs have no doubt helped to assure Michelin’s respect.
The following Copenhagen restaurants currently hold Michelin star ratings:
Noma (two stars)
Paustian with Bo Bech (new star)
Kiin Kiin (new star)
Geranium (new star)
