New congress centre worth its weight in gold to Copenhagen
20-12-2007
Property and construction:
Copenhagen is back in competition. In 2010 Arp-Hansen Hotel Group will open the doors to Copenhagen Downtown Congress Center a new congress centre seating 4,000 persons at Kalvebod Brygge. The centre that will also house Scandinavia’s largest hotel complex with three hotels and 1,300 rooms will be a supplement to Bella Center and strengthen the city’s position in the significantly sharpened competition about the lucrative international conferences and congresses.
Until last year Copenhagen was top scorer on the list of the world’s most used congress cities and has been so for ten years. However, in 2006 Copenhagen ranked only 16. For several years we have pointed out that we need to invest if Copenhagen should not fail to keep up with things. One of the principal conclusions was that the city needed a new congress centre with a central location. Therefore, we are very pleased that a private investor such as Arp-Hansen Hotel Group will launch this extensive project. In this way a great wish has been fulfilled on the part of the city, says general manager Lars Bernhard Jørgensen, Wonderful Copenhagen.
- We believe in Copenhagen and we expect a lot from this new project. The city has a strong brand and we look forward to a fruitful cooperation with Wonderful Copenhagen about attracting even more large congresses, conferences and other events to Copenhagen, says general manager Dorte Krak from Arp-Hansen Hotel Group.
