Copenhagen is the new Scandinavian hotspot for UK companies

Press release

London/Manchester, UK, 8 November 2007

More and more UK companies are making good use of Copenhagen as their bridgehead to the Scandinavian market. Now a new collaboration between organisations in Copenhagen and the UK is making access to Scandinavia even easier. On business days in London and Manchester, UK companies can quickly clarify their potential in Scandinavia

Norgine, Celltech, SmithKline Beecham, RS Components, PC-PoS, Cantor Fitzgerald, THQ and Microstrategy.

These are just some of the many UK companies now using Copenhagen as a springboard for the fast-growing, potent Scandinavian market. Today, more than 400 UK-owned companies are localised in the Danish capital Copenhagen – and the number has been growing rapidly in recent years:

”We are seeing tremendous interest from UK companies wishing to establish sales partnerships or Scandinavian bridgeheads in Copenhagen,” explains Business Development Manager Kim Lundberg from Copenhagen Capacity, the official investment promotion agency of the Capital Region of Denmark.

”Companies are interested in Copenhagen’s central placement in Scandinavia, the city’s highly developed infrastructure, highly educated workforce and ease of access to Sweden, which among many other benefits facilitates the recruitment of staff from both Denmark and Sweden.”

To meet this upsurge in interest, Copenhagen Capacity in collaboration with leading UK organisations has developed a concept whereby UK companies can in the space of one hour effectively screen their Scandinavian prospects and opportunities.

Two events are being held to showcase the concept. One will take place in London on 9 November in collaboration with Intellect, the UK’s IT sector organisation, and other partners. The other will be held in Manchester on 8-9 November in collaboration with Sørensen - Connecting Markets and the local Manchester office of UK Trade & Investment.

Continues Kim Lundberg: ”The concept comprises so-called business days, where we meet with interested companies for one hour, ask specific clarifying questions and provide the necessary information according to a specially developed concept. This allows UK companies - in a professional manner and without expending valuable time - to gain a good overview of their opportunities in Scandinavia.”

Business Development Manager Palle C. Hansen from Copenhagen Capacity adds: ”Interest in the London event has been overwhelming and we have noticed especially that the more than 50 people who have registered to take part are virtually all from senior management level. Given this great interest, we intend to follow up the success of this event with similar events in the near future.”

Since 2004, Copenhagen and Denmark have been ranked as the best place in the world to do business by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

”This is attributable to the fact that Copenhagen has an optimal infrastructure, a highly qualified workforce and very business-friendly legislation and administration,” explains Kim Lundberg, who predicts that the business establishment trend in Copenhagen will continue to show strong growth in the coming years.
