Foreign labour adds to the Danes' prosperity
18-07-2007

Economy:

The inrush of particularly Polish, Swedish and German workers to the Danish labour market is good business for the Danish society.

A statement made by Danske Bank on behalf on the Danish business daily Børsen shows that foreign labour may generate an economic profit in Denmark of at least EUR 500 million per year. This profit will increase in line with even more foreign workers coming to Denmark.

Moreover the economic advantages may grow remarkably if Denmark concentrates on attracting highly educated manpower and further qualify the Danish labour force.

”Other things being equal, if the foreign labour complement the Danish labour force instead of replacing it, the import of labour will lead to an increase of production. What matters is the right combination of labour force and the existing resources such as computers and machinery,” explains Jan Rose Skaksen, Economic Advisor and Professor in Economiy at Copenhagen Business School.
