US company RE/MAX to take over Danish real estate chain Livingstones
20-06-2007
Property and construction:
For years the US real estate chain RE/MAX has said it wanted to become big in Denmark. Now it is taking the first step towards achieving this aim.
One of the world's largest real estate chains, US company RE/MAX is now serious about its six year-old plan to grow big in Denmark, writes Berlingske Tidende.
RE/MAX has entered into an agreement with real estate company Livingstones, which operates five agencies and three showrooms in Greater Copenhagen, about turning these into RE/MAX businesses.
General Manager Konrad Konradsen from RE/MAX in Denmark says that the agreement between RE/MAX and Livingstones is not yet finalised, but that the company's 20 employees have been informed.
Precisely how the financial and legal agreements between RE/MAX and Livingstones will shape up has not yet been made public. Nor is it known when RE/MAX will be visible in the street scene.
However, Konrad Konradsen makes no secret of the fact that RE/MAX has great plans for further expansion in Denmark.
"We would like to make similar agreements with other chains. We have an eye on many other chains and shops which we hope and expect will enter into agreement with us. But at this stage I am not allowed to say which ones."
Konrad Konradsen adds that within the next five years RE/MAX expects to establish 100 real estate outlets in Denmark.
RE/MAX's concept is a sort of franchise business whereby the US company places marketing etc. at the disposal of each agent, who in return pays a fee for being part of the collaboration. Globally, RE/MAX employs 120,000 staff in 65 countries. In Europe alone the chain has 1,800 offices in 35 countries.
