Moving walkways in downtown Copenhagen?
04-05-2007
Location and infrastructure:
Five multidisciplined teams are presently showing their preliminary proposals of how the Metropolis zone in downtown Copenhagen may look. The proposals have everything from high-rise buildings and traffic-free city to walking-bridge across Tivoli Gardens.
Should the fence around Tivoli Gardens be pulled down? Or what about placing vehicle traffic underground? Moving walkways? Green areas or high-rise buildings?
These are some of the proposals of how the metropolis zone – the area of Copenhagen around Tivoli Gardens, Grand Central Station, the Harbour and the City Hall – may look in the future, writes Berlingske Tidende.
Since 5 March, five teams, consisting of Danish and international architects as well as city experts, have worked on their proposal for the architect competition which will close on 24 May. The aim is to create a better traffical network at the same time as securing a downtown whose life and cultural offers will be able to compete with capitals such as London and Berlin. What is so special about the architect competition is that interested citizens are allowed the opportunity to express their opinion throughout the process.
